Guidelines for Authors

Today’s CPA is a bimonthly magazine of the Texas Society of CPAs, and it serves as the primary vehicle for conveying information to more than 27,000 members statewide. This publication features articles and columns that focus on issues, trends and developments affecting CPAs, their employers, clients, and employees. It strives to communicate items of importance and keep CPAs abreast of the latest developments in all facets of business.

Anyone interested in writing for Today’s CPA should submit a short abstract of his/her work. Completed articles are also accepted. Suggested article length is 2,100 to 3,000 words, but we accept stories that are longer or shorter. Please send your abstract or completed article to the managing editor DeLynn Deakins or technical editor Brinn Serbanic.

As you research and write, consider charts, graphs or photos that could accompany your work. Also, please do not use first or second person. For example: “I believe Sarbanes-Oxley regulations hurt small businesses. You small business owners should be aware of these changes.”

Today’s CPA is a peer-reviewed publication. Articles are reviewed by the managing editor, technical editor and members of the Editorial Board. Many articles are rejected. If your article is accepted, you may be asked to modify the copy or provide additional information, charts or graphic elements. The managing editor will make any necessary style changes. Headlines and subheads may be rewritten.

Today’s CPA retains the right of first publication. Please do not submit your article to another publication until our review process is complete.

Statements of opinions expressed are those of the authors and not necessarily those of the Texas Society of CPAs.

Attribution: If you rely on reference material, please use the MLA Style Manual to cite your references. These cited works will precede the “About the Author” information in the magazine layout.

About the Author: Ends each article or column. Please include this information at the end of your article. Here is an example:
