Kathy Kapka, CPA has been a full-time faculty member of the University of Texas at Tyler College of Business since 2010. Her areas of instruction include financial and managerial accounting, auditing, forensic accounting and internal auditing.

She has also provided continuing professional education for individuals in these areas, as well as presenting on other topics, such as internal controls, professional standards and managing/training internal auditors. She also has over 30 years of accounting and auditing experience, most recently serving as chief audit executive at The University of Texas at Tyler from 1999-2010.

Kathy obtained a BBA and an MBA from The University of Texas at Tyler. In addition to being a CPA, she is a Certified Internal Auditor and a Certified Governmental Auditing Professional.

She has served on the board of directors of the East Texas Chapter in several positions, including 2009-2010 president. Kathy currently serves on the TSCPA Executive Board, the TSCPA Ethics Committee and the TSCPA Professional Standards Committee, where she was chair from 2010-2012.

She has also held the position of accounting principles committee chair for the Association of College and University Auditors (ACUA) and served on the Accounting Principles Council for the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). These roles have provided her with the experience and knowledge needed to interact with national standard setting bodies and accounting professionals on a variety of topics.

TSCPA honored Kathy with the 2012 Outstanding Accounting Educator Award. These awards recognize accounting educators in Texas who have demonstrated teaching excellence and have distinguished themselves through active service to the accounting profession. She also received the 2012 Member Excellence in Service Award from ACUA, which recognizes a member annually who has made outstanding contributions to the mission of ACUA through exceptional service.

Kathy is married to Robert Kapka and they live near Whitehouse. Their son, Kevin, is a graduate of Texas A&M University with degrees in nuclear engineering and physics. Kevin and his wife, Chelsea, make their home in Houston. For recreation, Kathy and Robert enjoy traveling, following college football, riding their Harley, or doing just about anything that involves the outdoors.

TSCPA Executive Director/CEO

Sharbaugh is the CEO and Executive Director of the Texas Society of CPAs. He began his leadership of TSCPA in March of 2000.

Before joining TSCPA, he was vice president of State Societies and Regulatory Affairs with the American Institute of CPAs in Washington, D.C. for 12 years. He also served as executive director of the North Carolina Association of CPAs and as deputy executive director for the Florida Institute of CPAs.

Sharbaugh is immediate past president of the CPA Society Executives Association. He is also a member of the AICPA Peer Review Board and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Society of Association Executives.

His professional credentials include a Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation issued in 1991 by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). He received a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University in 1972, and an MBA from the University of Florida in 1976.

John is married to Carolyn, and they have two adult children. He resides in Plano.
