Texas is one of a few states that restricts the corporate practice of medicine. Private equity firms and large health care organizations continue to purchase medical provider practices. This session will cover allowable entity structures and the restrictions of the corporate practice of medicine. It will also cover federal scrutiny of private equity purchases and requirements of the Corporate Transparency Act.

8 – 9:15 a.m. General Understanding of the Medicare Cost Report

This session will provide attendees with a general understanding of the Medicare cost report. This is applicable to those working for or with Medicare Part A providers, who are required to file a Medicare cost report to CMS annually (i.e., hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, federally qualified health centers, home health agencies, rural health clinics, etc.). 

Major Topics: 

  • Medicare Provider Reimbursement Manual, Parts I & II, which covers who files a cost report, when it’s due, what is required to be in the report, removing non-allowable costs, overhead allocations, etc.

  • Using the cost report as a management tool
